Mildred Marlene "Millie"  Aken (Zehner)
Mildred M. "Millie" Aken, 78, of Kenosha, WI, and Sun City, AZ, died on Monday, May 29, 2017, surrounded by family and friends at her family residence after battling with Alzheimer’s.
Born on February 7, 1939, in Bruce, WI, she was the daughter of Howard and Ida Mae (Lane) Zehner. She was a graduate of Bruce High School in Bruce, WI, in 1957 and she also graduated from Whitewater college in 1959, obtaining her Elementary Teachers Degree.
Millie married Donald Aken of Richland Center, WI, on January 26, 1963.
After her marriage, she continued her education at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, and the University of Wisconsin-Parkside where she obtained her Master’s Degree in Education.
She was employed with Kenosha Unified Schools starting at Hillcrest and retiring at McKinley. She continued to teach after retirement in both Kenosha and Peoria, AZ. She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Moose Lodge 286, Danish Brotherhood Lodge 14, and a sister of Alpha Delta Kappa. She loved her children and grandchildren, the Milwaukee Brewers, The Green Bay Packers, and slot machines.
She is survived by her children, Shannon Aken of Chicago, Sharron Aken-Logan (Andrew) of Minneapolis, MN, and Dennis (Sara) Aken of Kenosha; grandchildren, Kaitlin, Isabella, and Olivia; and a great-granddaughter, Charlotte, all of Kenosha. She is also survived by sisters, Marjorie of Colfax, WI, and Carol of Chester, MT; a brother, Chuck (Marion) of Sun City, AZ; a sister-in-law, Betty Zehner of Tomahawk, WI; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Ida Mae; husband, Donald Aken; in-laws, Jack and Eleanor Aken; brothers, Thomas, Dennis, and Bob Zehner; sister, Donna (Zehner) Noha; and brothers-in-law, Marlin Newville, Marv Noha, and Bob Aitken.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 2nd, at Proko Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park.
