Susan B. Nelson, 61, of Kenosha, passed away after battling breast cancer on Friday, January 1, 2021, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Lake Forest, IL, on November 18, 1959, she was the daughter of the late Felix and Barbara (Lahiff) Tancula.

On November 14, 1987, she married John Nelson at St. Mary’s Church in Evanston, IL.

Susan received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Boston College in 1981. From that day forward, she was a dedicated educator. She taught special education and primary education to many children through the years, including those at Day School, Cove School, and Glenbrook North High School in IL, at St. Mary’s and St. Peter’s Catholic Schools in Kenosha, and at Our Lady of Grace in Racine. She also was a tutor to many.

She was a dedicated wife and mother who enjoyed watching her son Eddie play baseball and her daughters, Maggie and Annie, playing sports and dancing. She was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed crafting and going antiquing.

Left to cherish Susan’s memory are her husband, John; three children, Margaret, Edward, and Anna Nelson; five siblings, James (Martha) Tancula, Robert (Laurie) Tancula, Margaret (John) Vignocchi, Elizabeth (James) Manos, and Patricia (Joseph) Partington; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Fred (Sandy) Nelson, Robert (Nina) Nelson, Mary (John) Weiss, Patricia Lystila, Michael (Susan) Nelson, and James (Caroline) Nelson. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

The family would like to extend a thank you to all who gave her medical care at Northwestern Memorial and Horizon Hospice for the care they provided.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 8, 2021, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 7307 40th Ave, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Entombment will follow at All Saints Mausoleum. Anyone planning on attending services will be required to wear a facial covering and follow social distancing guidelines. In lieu of flowers, memorials made to Circle of Hope – Kenosha,, would be appreciated by the family.

Words during this time just don't seem to be enough. Know that mine and my siblings thoughts and prayers, are with the family during this sad time. I hope you find peace in knowing that the deep loss you feel is due to the deep love and treasure she was to each and everyone of you, and us. She is now pain free, at peace, and with the ones who predeceased her. Grandma, Granddad (who we, unfortunately never had the pleasure of meeting, Mom (Aunt Barbara to us), Dad (Uncle Fel [?sp]), Aunt Helen (Mom), and others. What a blessing to know she is with those whom loved her so, and most importantly with God! Try to have peace in knowing that that incredible deep ache is from incredible beauty and love that such an amazing woman shared with each and everyone of us.
I was given the pleasure of speaking with a lovely woman from Circle Of Hope Kenosha. She graciously shared about how during times of struggle she and Susan became friends, and Susan helped that cause in every way she could, while she was battling that ugly cancer herself.
Well, after rambling on, I just want to assure you that though my family and I are not able to be there in person, we are there in spirit. If there is anything we can do to support in anyway, please feel free to contact anyone of us. As Susan was dear to us, the family is too! May God bless each and every one of you!

With love,
The Wells family
