Karen Lee Covelli, 68, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away surrounded by her family on Monday, February 24, 2020, at Grand Prairie Health and Rehab Center.

She was born February 14, 1952, in Racine, the daughter of the late Jack and Esther (Mandli) Kammien. On October 11, 1975, she married Joseph Covelli at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary in Kenosha.

Karen worked as a phlebotomist at St. Mary’s Hospital in Racine for 17 years. She truly enjoyed getting to know and caring for her patients.

Drawing, attending bible study, swimming, baking, and cooking were her favorite hobbies. Above all, Karen loved spending time with her family and spoiling her grandchildren.

Karen is survived by her husband, Joseph; three children, Emilio (Rebecca) Covelli, Nicoletta (Steve Kräck) Covelli, and Paulina (Dean) Aceto; five grandchildren, Sophia, Joseph, Antonio, Leanne, and Juliette; siblings, Kathy Running, Sherry Olsewski, Susan (Greg) Pofahl, Lorri Kammien, Jack (Heather) Kammien, and Lynn Kammien; and is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Preceding her in death is her brother, Terry Kammien.

Visitation will take place on Saturday, February 29th, at Proko Funeral Home, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at St. George Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

Joe, Emilio, Nikki, and Paulina,

I am so sorry to hear of Karen’s passing. Having been a neighbor of Karen during my childhood, I have so many great memories of Karen having my brother and I over to hang out with you all. So many great meals and haircuts (the best home-cooked chicken ever)... The tire swing in the backyard, the covered pool, walking to Matoska Park... Great times for sure. I am thinking of you all during this difficult time.

I am sorry to hear about your love one passing. When we lose a love on in death we feel so helpless, and I know that God will " surround and comfort" you at this difficult time. We all look forward to seeing our love ones again in paradise.

Karen was a super lady. When she worked at All Saints drawing blood I couldn't walk by without her running out to say hello. She was always concerned about me and we never missed an opportunity to talk about her Dad. Jack was my mentor and like a second father to me. I really loved the guy. I miss the phone calls from her mom and hearing how the family was doing. You sincere condolences. I am deeply saddened to learn of Karens passing. My best wishes to the Kambient and Covelli families. Ed Carlson .

Ed Carlson. I typed Kammien but my auto correct thinks it knows more than me. And I meant to offer my sincere condolences. Sorry about that.
