Julie E. Walberer (nee Marks), 79 years old of Kenosha, WI, passed away Friday, July 15, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.
Julie was born July 25, 1942 in Cincinnati, OH, the daughter of Louise Epstein and Emanuel Marks. Julie graduated from University of Illinois Chicago and Illinois Institute of Technology. She found great joy and pride in being an occupational therapist and applied the skills from her education throughout her career. She retired from the RTA in Chicago, IL where she worked as a paratransit advocate. Julie moved to Kenosha, WI in 2011 to be closer to family. Julie devoted countless hours over many years to volunteering with women’s shelters, children, and disability advocacy organizations. She was a frontline participant who demonstrated and educated for the rights of disabled people both locally and nationally. As an acknowledgment of her work, she was invited to Washington DC for the signing of the landmark Americans with Disabilities Act in 1990.
Julie was known for her upbeat, outgoing, and enthusiastic personality. She made friends everywhere she went. She was an extraordinary grandmother! Julie was a humble yet talented artist who created beautiful pottery, silver work, and creations with fabric, paper and flowers. Julie loved her plants and gardening. She loved her cats and gave a home to many over the years. She was a social butterfly and played bridge, took classes, and belonged to book clubs. She was an avid reader. Julie loved to travel. She visited many near and far locations and always looked forward to the next destination.
Julie is survived by her two loving daughters, Lauren Dolan of Concord, CA and Amy (Shannon) Koskinen of Kenosha, WI; four cherished grandchildren, Isa Dolan, Hanifa (Abdullah Albeidh) Dolan, Jakob Koskinen, and Joshua Koskinen; siblings, Leslie (Tom) Burgess, Roger (Carol) Marks, Emilie (Nancy Howard) Marks; sisters-in-law, Susan Marks, Helen Spranger, Susan (Gary Howes) Heyden and brother-in-law, William (Nancy) Walberer. Julie is further survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends who will treasure her memory. In addition to her parents, Julie was preceded in death by husband, Donald, brother, William Marks and brother-in-law Albert Spranger.
Julie’s family would like to thank Maria and Karressa for their compassionate care and friendship.
A private burial will take place at Forest Home Cemetery - Prairie Rest Green Burial in Milwaukee, WI. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
