Obituary for Juan Silva Herrera

Juan Herrera Silva nació el 8 de febrero, 1929, en Rio Grande, Zacatecas México, siendo uno de los ocho hijos nacidos del matrimonio de Luciano y Antonia Herrera. A la edad de 17 años, conoció al gran amor de su vida, su “Mariquita”, María Inés Zúñiga Ramírez. El 15 de septiembre, 1951, unieron sus vidas en matrimonio, de lo cual nacieron sus diez hijos: Rosalinda, Juan, Ramiro, Víctor, Luis, Eduardo, Sandra, Jorge, Angelica y Luciano.
Juan y María dedicaron sus vidas enteras a sus hijos, criándolos en las ciudades de Rio Grande, Cuidad Juárez y Waukegan. Para mantener a su familia, Juan trabajo duro como bracero, jardinero, y en mantenimiento de oficinas. La gran bendición de los esfuerzos de Juan y María fueron 26 nietos, 20 bisnietos, y 67 años de matrimonio.
Conoció la verdad a los principios de 1980, y se bautizo como Testigo de Jehová el 18 de mayo, 1985, en Janesville, Wisconsin. A traves de su trayectoria espiritual, asistió a las congregaciones de Waukegan, North Chicago, Zion y Kenosha. Tuvo el privilegio de servir como siervo ministerial, y se encargó y disfruto de la limpieza del Salón del Reino. Además, fue muy servicial y hospitalario, gozando por ejemplo en proveer transportación a muchos hermanos.
Jehová Dios y sus verdades bíblicas lograron impactar el corazón de Juan, contribuyendo a muchos cambios positivos en su vida. A pesar de sus muchas dolencias, tenía un sentido del humor autentico y le echaba ganas a la vida, siempre cooperando con la familia en cuanto a su salud. Fue ejemplo de gran animo al asistir a las reuniones en sus últimos años de vida. Compartió su esperanza de vivir para siempre en el Paraíso, donde no habrá más sufrimiento. Para todos que conocimos a Juan, estará siempre en nuestros corazones hasta el día seguro en que lo volvamos a ver. (Juan 5:28, 29)

Juan Herrera Silva was born on February 8, 1929, in Rio Grande, Zacatecas Mexico, being one of eight children born to Luciano and Antonia Herrera’s marriage. At the age of 17, he met the great love of his life, his "Mariquita", María Inés Zúñiga Ramírez. On September 15, 1951, they joined their lives in matrimony, of which their ten children were born: Rosalinda, Juan, Ramiro, Víctor, Luis, Eduardo, Sandra, Jorge, Angelica and Luciano.
Juan and Maria dedicated their entire lives to their children, residing in the cities of Rio Grande and Ciudad Juárez in Mexico and Waukegan Illinois in the United States. To support his family, Juan worked hard as a bracero (Mexican laborer allowed in the U.S. for a limited time as a seasonal agricultural worker), gardener, and in office maintenance. The great blessing of Juan and Maria’s efforts were 26 grandchildren, 20 great- grandchildren, and 67 years of marriage.
He began studying the Bible at the beginning of 1980, and was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on May 18, 1985, in Janesville, Wisconsin. Throughout his spiritual career, he attended the congregations of Waukegan, North Chicago, Zion and Kenosha. He had the privilege of serving as a ministerial servant, and was responsible and found joy in the upkeep of the Kingdom Hall. In addition, he was very helpful and hospitable, as was the case in his enjoyment of providing transportation for many to and from the congregation meetings.
Jehovah God and the Bible truths motivated Juan's heart, contributing to many positive changes in his life. In spite of his many ailments, he had a sense of authentic humor and zest for life, always cooperating with the family in terms of his health. He was an example of great encouragement in attending meetings in his last years of life. He shared his hope of living forever in paradise, where there will be no more suffering. For all of us who met Juan, he will always be in our hearts until the day we see him again. (John 5:28, 29)
