Obituary for Fortunata Aiello (Pellegrino)

Fortunata Aiello, of Kenosha, WI, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2022, at Froedtert Pleasant Prairie Hospital, Pleasant Prairie, WI, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born October 1, 1923, in Cerisano, Cosenza, Italy, the daughter of the late Gaetano and Maria (Sorrentino) Pellegrino. On January 27, 1946, she married Saverio Aiello in Italy. She came from Italy in 1954, following Saverio who came to the U.S. the year prior; he preceded her in death in 2009.

Fortunata was employed by Vincent McCall, Kenosha, WI, for eight years, she later went on to work for Paielli’s Bakery, Kenosha, WI, as a baker’s assistant for 24 years before her retirement in 1986. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening and knitting; Fortunata made the best raviolis, lasagna, scalidi, turdilli, taralli, cuddureddi (fried dough) and melazane.

Survivors include her children, Antonio (Lynn) Aiello and Carolina Aiello, both of Kenosha, WI; a grandson, Brett Aiello of Glendale, WI; siblings, Ida Provenzano, and Alberto (Concetta) Pellegrino; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents and husband, Fortunata was preceded in death by siblings, Enrico Pellegrino, Filomena Greco, Domenic Pellegrino, Francesco Pellegrino, Giuseppe Pellegrino, Luigi Pellegrino, Antonio Pellegrino and Maria Pellegrino.

Thank you to everyone who cared for Fortunata in her last days, especially Dr. Montemurro, the staff at Froedtert Pleasant Prairie Hospital, and North Point Senior Living, Somers, WI.

A rosary will take place at 9:00 a.m., followed by visitation from 9:30 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, March 24, 2022, at Proko Funeral Home with prayers commencing at 10:45 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary of Pompeii Catholic Church, 2224 45th Street, Kenosha, WI, at 11:30 a.m. Entombment will follow in All Saints Mausoleum, Pleasant Prairie, WI. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to Our Lady of the Holy Rosary of Pompeii Catholic Church, in her memory.
