Obituary for Elizabeth E. "Betty" Matalas-Muehlbauer (Gelsone)

Elizabeth “Betty” E. Matalas-Muehlbauer, 101, of Pleasant Prairie, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 28th, at Froedtert South St. Catherine’s Medical Center.

Born on January 16, 1918 in Kenosha, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Rose (Marucca) Gelsone. She attended Mary D. Bradford High School.

On August 2, 1941, she married Clarence Matalas. He preceded her in death on April 9, 1973. In May of 1979, she married John Muehlbauer. They moved to Milwaukee the same year. He preceded her in death in 1997.

Betty was employed by Korf’s Clothing and Ventura Jewelry Store.

She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, Dancing Circle and Latin Club all of Milwaukee. She was also a member of the Artemis Club. She enjoyed dancing and was an avid Ballroom dancer. She was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary since the 1940’s.

Betty is survived by her son, David M. Matalas of Kenosha; former daughter in law, Janet Matalas of Kenosha; two grandchildren, Katherine (Eric) Deram and David A. Matalas; two stepchildren, John Muehlbauer III and Trudeen Muehlbauer; and one great grandchild, Madelyn Deram. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, and her siblings, Rose, Eugene, Carrie, Ernest, William, Lena and Albert.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 5th, at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church at 11:30 a.m. Interment at St. George Cemetery will follow. A visitation will be held prior on Tuesday at Proko Funeral Home from 9:00 a.m. until a prayer service at 10:45 a.m.
