Obituary for Dennis J. Porcaro

Dennis J. Porcaro, 80, gained access to heaven’s most prestigious Car Show on Thursday, August 11, 2022. He was greeted by his beloved Mother Caroline (ne: Villella) and his father Michael Porcaro. His dear Uncle Jack and Aunt Jessie Villella, who inspired and fostered his passion for car restoration, along with his friend and mentor, the legendary George Barris, were chosen to present him with his highest honor, the coveted life trophy, for all the happiness and love he shared while on earth. Cheering him on were his cherished friends who had arrived ahead of him, including Dayton Cheny and Roger Martin.

Born on March 2, 1942, Dennis was a lifelong resident of Kenosha. He attended St. Mark Elementary School and graduated from St. Joseph Catholic Academy. Dennis’ vast array of artistic skills were mostly self-taught. Prior to opening his own auto body shop, Porcaro Automotive, Dennis worked at American Motors. Considered by many to be the finest custom auto body specialist ever to grace the western shores of Lake Michigan, Dennis was awarded countless 1st place trophies for his outstanding vintage cars, especially his prized ’57 Chevy Bel Air. Dennis was also known to sketch an ink portrait on the back of a placemat in a brisk few minutes. He would often demonstrate his love of music with his soft velvety voice, singing in perfect harmony to his favorite, “Silhouettes”.

Dennis, true to himself, fought a hard-headed battle with Parkinson’s and heart disease. Special thanks for the love and support of several friends and relatives, including his cousins Daniel Villella and Gayle Vose, and a wealth of friends whom he loved deeply, and who loved him equally, including Roger “Rocky” Garofalo who spent hours by his side, Dustin Montelongo Peña, whom he considered to be the son he never had, and neighbors Randy and Cindy, John Chiapetta, Paula Clark and many others.

Dennis will forever be remembered for his passionate and often stubborn, heart of hearts. He gifted us with many fond memories and stories to share. The toys of his childhood and other restorations of his heart, all neatly displayed inside his museum-like shop, speak to his genuine charm, charisma and endearing love for all things that hold life’s most precious and joyful memories.

Chapel services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, at All Saints Mausoleum, Pleasant Prairie, WI. Visitation will take place from 1 - 2 p.m. Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to Hospice Alliance, 10220 Prairie Ridge Blvd, Pleasant Prairie, WI 53158, or St. Mark Catholic Church, 7117 14th Avenue, Kenosha, WI 53143, in his memory.
