Obituary for Christopher Lee Mitchem

Christopher L. Mitchem, 35, of Kenosha, WI, passed away at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, WI, on Tuesday, January 28, 2020.

Born on January 18, 1985, the beloved son of the late Richard Smart Jr.

Christopher participated in Special Olympics, playing basketball, track, softball, and bowling; earning many ribbons and a trophy. He was also part of Crabtree Residential Living. Christopher worked on the janitorial and carwash staff at Kwik Trip and was a loved member of their crew.

He is survived by the honorary family of his choosing, Aunt Mary Smart; “Sister” Danielle Friedrich; a “Nephew”, Kayden; and “Nieces” Aryelle, and Reina; “Auntie” Markena and “Uncle” David Lanska; and Stacey Zizzo “The Boss" – and sometimes Mom. He is also survived by two uncles, Robert Moore, and Jesse Roberts; his estranged mother, Elizabeth Mitchem; and his estranged father, James Ramm; as well as, his friends from Special Olympics, Crabtree, and Kwik Trip.

The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Froedtert Medical Center, especially the CVICU nursing staff who he came to love during the many weeks he spent with them, and the Respiratory, Speech, and Physical Therapy departments. Also, Waukesha Rehabilitation Hospital and Harmony House, for the help and care that they gave to Chris. He would also want us to thank his guardian, Kiki, his case manager, Erica, and Cathy Lewis of Special Olympics.

Visitation for Chris will be held on February 22nd, in the basement at St. Peters Catholic Church, 2224 30th Avenue, from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the Memorial Service at 2:00 p.m. Parking and entrance are behind the church on the north side. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Kenosha Special Olympics or the American Cancer Society in his name.
